The SUN Movement was established in 2010 in order to unite people – from governments, civil society, the United Nations, donors, businesses, researchers, parliamentarians – at national and global levels, in collective efforts to improve multi-sectoral policies and plans, align and scale up investments and actions and thereby contribute to ensuring that the world is free from malnutrition by 2030. SUN Movement is based on an agreed Framework for Action to Scale up Nutrition, 2010.
SUN Movement works on the Principle “Everyone has a right to food and good nutrition”. The movement is working to achieve sustainable and equitable reductions in malnutrition and nutrition justice for all. It is not a fund, an institution or an agency, rather the Movement is strengthening political commitments and accountability for those commitments.
Nepal joined SUN Movement on 5 May, 2011. Nepal is already an early raiser member country of the SUN Movement. Nepal has established itself as a model-member country for Scaling up Nutrition Movement creating its journey from MSNP-I (2013-2017), MSNP- II (2018-2022) to SUN Movement Global Gathering 2019.
By 2030, a world free from malnutrition in all its forms. Led by governments and supported by organizations and individuals – collective action ensures every child, adolescent, mother and family can realize their right to food and nutrition, reach their full potential and shape sustainable and prosperous societies.
